ShaPix Surface Detective
Due to the requirements for more and more precision in machined parts, contact metrology devices are no longer precise enough, and don't generate enough data points. Quality and process engineers are left with incomplete information—and a limited view of the machining process inevitably limits the optimization of that process.
Coherix, Inc. has announced the availability of the newest generation in its revolutionary high-definition micron-level surface metrology and defect detection system product family.
Using patented holographic imaging techniques, ShaPix Surface Detective generates high-resolution, 3D images of a measured surface. This digital holographic system family provides immediate actionable color-graphic visual information enabling immediate machine and process control in precision machining and other manufacturing processes.
ShaPix Surface Detective's comprehensive and accurate imaging capabilities quickly and easily analyze complex parts such as these transmission valve bodies, replacing time consuming and potentially inaccurate manual approaches.
Today's precision manufacturing requires tighter and tighter tolerances. Manufacturers — held responsible for meeting strict quality standards — need metrology tools that confirm measurements with the highest accuracy and repeatability. In addition, they need to be able to quickly compare dimensional data and digitally communicate the results to customers, suppliers, vendors and more. The solution is the digital hologram, invented at The University of Michigan, and commercialized by Coherix. Coherix combines digital holography with innovations in application development to transform the way precision parts are manufactured in the transportation industry.
ShaPix Surface Detective obsoletes old probe-based mechanical technologies that are subject to run-out errors, breakage, and tortuously slow data collection. ShaPix Surface Detective also eliminates the high expense, lays and complications of programming trace paths for new or changed parts. But perhaps most importantly, ShaPix Surface Detective tells the whole surface dimensional story, not just supplying a few sparse samples that may miss the critical defects or variances that would later result in lengthy and costly spillages, failed higher-value assemblies, and expensive warranty repairs.
ShaPix is a better solution. Its multi-wavelength metrology system gives you a complete view — a wealth of dimensionally accurate information that shows exactly where the trouble lies.

How ShaPix Surface Detective works
ShaPix uses a tunable-wavelength holographic interferometer to gather data about the part in its field of view. ShaPix's processing software then uses patented algorithms to convert the captured data into an exceptionally accurate 3D height map of the part surface.Unequaled Density of Part Surface Information
